Drivers that have been speeding and behind the wheel under the influence of drugs have been detected in recent days by the Longford Roads Policing Unit.
While on patrol in Longford town on Friday, February 4, gardaí stopped a car where the driver tested positive at the roadside for the presence of cannabis and was arrested for driving under the influence.
And on Tuesday, February 1, a driver with issued with a fixed charge penalty notice after being caught speeding at 133 kilometres per hour in a 100km zone.
In neighbouring Westmeath, gardaí detected a car travelling at 161kph on a 100kph zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver tested positive for cocaine and was subsequently arrested.
