Late Maura Brady lived her life in accordance with her favourite saying 'do what you do do well'

Late Maura (Mary V) Brady, Carricknabrick, Loughduff, Cavan

There was much sadness on the occasion of the death of Maura (Mary V) Brady, Carricknabrick, Loughduff, Co Cavan on Wednesday, November 28.

Having celebrated her ninety first birthday on November 11 she passed away, peacefully, in Lisdarn Unit for the Elderly, Cavan where she had resided for the past few years.

Maura was a grand old lady of her time. In her young days she worked hard on the family farm as well as looking after her widowed father and four siblings but she took it all in her stride. Whatever had to be done, Maura was always to hand to take over.

In her early 30’s, she went to England and trained as a nurse, earning herself a gold medal in her class. She then moved to New York where she nursed for over 40 years.

In the US she became an integral part of the extended Brady family and she visited home annually, often accompanied by various cousins or other family connections.

Maura’s passing has left a great void in the family chain where she was the link which ensured a strong family bond. She was deeply religious, and had a deep devotion to Our Lady and she liked nothing more than visiting Knock when she was home.

She was a life-long member of the PTAA and was also a member of the Legion of Mary when it was active in the parish.

Despite Maura’s ability for hard work, she had a gentle and caring nature, and an air of calm and tranquillity about her which endeared her to all who came in contact with her.

One of Maura’s favourite sayings was “do what you do do well” and Maura certainly did that.

Her remains reposed at the home of her sister-in-law Valerie Brady, Carricknabrick (her former home) on Thursday and Friday, November 29 & 30 and funeral took place following requiem mass in St Joseph's Church, Loughduff on Saturday December 1 to local cemetery.

Maura was predeceased by her brothers Paddy (Navan), John (Carricknabrick) and Donal (New York), and is deeply regretted by her brother Charlie, (Killadream), sisters-in-law Detta (Killadream), Valerie (Carricknabrick) and Chris (New York), nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends to whom we extend our sincere sympathy. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
