Heartland Wheelers Cycling Club (HWCC) is delighted to announce the Tour of Longford 2025, taking place on Saturday, September 6. The event will feature two scenic route options — 50km and 100km — offering something for both leisure cyclists and experienced riders.

Gerry Doyle, Chairperson of Heartland Wheelers CC, explained the club’s origins:

“A few years ago, a group of us completed cycles in aid of Cian’s Kennels, a national charity based in Longford. Following that event, we decided to establish a new cycling club under the auspices of Cycling Ireland, and in January 2024, Heartland Wheelers CC was officially founded. Our aim is to cater for all abilities and be as inclusive as possible, creating a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone.”

Since its launch, the club has grown to 60 members, who meet weekly to cycle routes around County Longford and beyond. Members regularly take part in major cycling events across Ireland, including the Ring of Kerry Cycle, and routes in Connemara and Sligo.

In 2024, the committee agreed that Longford deserved its own annual cycling tour. Planning began for the Tour of Longford, with the aim of delivering a safe, enjoyable event that showcases the county’s beauty. The club acknowledges the generous support of Longford County Council, An Garda Síochána, Order of Malta, Longford Sports Partnership, and numerous local businesses.

This year’s nominated charity is Cian’s Kennels. HWCC is especially grateful to C&D Foods, Edgeworthstown, a longstanding supporter of Cian’s Kennels and now a key sponsor of the Tour of Longford.

The Tour will start at the Vintage Club, Connolly Barracks, Longford Town (Eircode: N39 EA43). Registration will be at 8:30am, and will start at 10am for both the 50km and 100km routes. Refreshments will be provided before, during and after the cycle.
The committee says that the HWCC committee’s goal is simple: to have a memorable day of cycling, community spirit, and Longford hospitality.
