Longford Marathon to get underway but with some road closures

Countdown to Sunday's marathon is nearing, and participants can do: 5K - 5000 meters; half marathon - 13 miles, 192.5 yards; marathon - 26 miles, 385 yards; ultra marathon - 39 miles, 577.5 yards; marathon relay - 26 miles, 385 yards - 1st, 2nd and 3rd stages approximately 7.5 miles, 4th stage approximately 4 miles. 

On Saturday, all runners can collect their numbers on Saturday from 1.00pm to 6.00pm at Race Headquarters in The Longford Arms Hotel. Signs will be around the town directing participants to the correct location. New entries will also be accepted at Race HeadQuarters on Saturday.

Sunday has several start times depending on distance and pace, which can be found via the Longford Marathon website. The number collection for the marathon and half-marathon will open at 6.00am at The Longford Arms Hotel. Regular water stations are every three miles.

The following roads will be closed for 2025's Longford Marathon:

On Sunday, August 24,  Main Street, Longford Town, Longford will be closed from 7am to 6pm. All through traffic is requested to use the N4 & N5 Longford Town By-passes. Diversions will be in place in the Town Centre for local traffic. 

From 8:30 to 4pm, Eastbound lane of the N63 Athlone Rd, Longford from Ballymacormack crossroads to Townspark (Entrance to SuperValu) will close. From Ballymahon/Killasheetraffic is to divert via the R397 & the L-1127 at Ballymacormack. Westbound traffic (from Longford town) will proceed with traffic management in place. Delays can be expected.

From 8:30 to 4pm, L-3001-0 Lisbrack Road and R198 Battery Road will be closed. 

On completion of the event, roads may open when safe to allow access, which could be in advance of advertised time.

Traffic management/signed diversions will be in place for local traffic.
