People in Longford have been told to "shower as soon as possible" if they come into contact with an algal bloom near a popular picnic spot.
Longford County Council has issued a public notice over the potentially dangerous algal bloom spotted growing at Barley Harbour.
"We’re asking everyone to take extra care around Barley Harbour following the presence of an algal bloom.
"Algal blooms (sometimes visible as green/blue scum on the water) can be harmful to humans, dogs and animals.
"Keep dogs and pets out of the water, don’t let them swim or drink where blooms are present.

"If you come in contact with the water, shower as soon as possible and wash any clothing or equipment thoroughly," a statement read.
People are urged to report any sightings of algal bloom to Longford County Council.
