RIP: 'Special character'- Longford in mourning as tributes pour in for popular local man

RIP JJ Dolan

Tributes have poured in for Longford native JJ Dolan who sadly died recently and is remembered as a true gentleman. 

JJ was from Prucklish, Newtownforbes in Longford and formerly of Aughadowry, Ballinamuck and died peacefully surrounded by his heartbroken family in Cavan General Hospital on 16 August 2025.

He was predeceased by his mother Ellen, his father and father-in-law Chris Egan and will be sadly missed and forever loved by his family, his beloved wife and best friend Nicola, his cherished daughters Cáit and Maisie, sister Mary, mother-in-law Kathleen, brothers-in-law Vincent Smyth, Christopher and Kevin Egan, sister-in-law Julie Egan, nephews Cian, Aaron and Erin, relatives, neighbours and his many great friends.

A message on RIP.ie was left for JJ which read: "Your life was love and labour, Your love for your family true. You did your best for all of us. We will always love and remember you. May your Gentle Soul Rest in Peace JJ."

Funeral Arrangements:

Reposing in Connell's Funeral Home, Church St, Longford, N39 KN66 on Tuesday August 19th from 5 o'clock concluding with prayers at 8 o'clock.

Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Newtownforbes on Wednesday August 20th at 12 o'clock. Following Mass, JJ will be laid to rest in the family plot in Ballinamuck New Cemetery. Mass can be viewed live click on the link below.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered JJ, with one mourner writing,

"So sad to hear about the passing of JJ. I have only wonderful memories of him years ago coming to our house at home. A pleasant witty young man full of fun. Deepest sympathies to Nicola, Cait, Maisie and sister Mary and extended family. May he rest in peace".

Another message said: "Sincere condolences to Nicola, Cáit, Maisie and the extended Dolan family on the loss of J.J.
J.J. will always be fondly remembered as a true Gentleman".

"Deepest sympathy to JJ's family on his very sad passing. Special character, made us smile so much. May you rest in peace ," another person said.
