An Garda Síochána have advised locals that there will be a series of road closures on Sunday, August 24 to facilitate the Abbott Longford marathon.
Longford County Council have implemented the following road closures on Sunday August 24:
Main Street, Longford Town, Longford will be closed from 7 am to 6pm.
All traffic is requested to instead use the N4 and N5 Longford Town bypasses with diversions in place in the town centre for local traffic.

The Eastbound Lane of the N63 Athlone Road, Longford from Ballymacormack crossroads to Townspark (the entrance to Supervalu) will be closed between 8:30 am and 4 pm.
The alternative route motorists are being advised to take is, traffic coming from Ballymahon and Killashee divert via the R397 and L-1127 at Ballymacormack. While westbound traffic from Longford Town can proceed with traffic management in place, delays to be expected.
The final two roads subject to temporary closure are L-3001 Lisbrack Road and R198 Battery Road from 8:30 am till 4 pm.
Upon completion of the events, the roads may reopen earlier than scheduled.
