EirGrid public information meeting on new 110 kV Lanesboro substation upgrade

EirGrid is holding a public information meeting on Wednesday, April 3, in St Mary’s Parish Hall, on Main Street, Lanesboro, from 1pm until 8pm.

EirGrid, operator of Ireland’s electricity transmission system, is planning to redevelop the substation site at Lanesboro, upgrading the network supplying power to Longford, Roscommon and throughout Ireland.

The project will involve the construction of a new 110 kV substation on the lands adjacent to the existing Lough Ree Power Station.

EirGrid and members of its team of consultants will be available at the meeting to brief people on the project and to answer any questions that members of the community may have.

Louise Glennon, EirGrid spokesperson, said: “This is an important project that will upgrade the existing substation at Lanesborough.  The station equipment needs to be modernised to allow maintenance and provide additional capacity for renewable generation.  These works will ensure a safe and secure supply of electricity for customers in Longford and Roscommon.”

Stakeholders are invited to attend the public information event in person. If people cannot attend the meeting, they can log on to our website, www.eirgrid.com, call or email EirGrid for further information or to provide feedback on the project.

The consultation phase of this project will conclude in mid-May.
