The death occurred unexpectedly but peacefully at The Midland’s Regional Hospital Mullingar on Monday, February 2, 2026 of Dymphna Townsend Hackett, Bannon Terrace, Longford Town, Longford. 

John Heneghan, The Clover, Creevaghmore, Ballymahon, Longford

The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his heartbroken family in Mullingar Regional Hospital on Friday, January 30, 2026 of John Heneghan, The Clover, Creevaghmore, Ballymahon, Longford (formerly of Greene & Heneghan Tyres, Market Square, Longford).

Reunited with his beloved wife Mary (recently deceased), his parents John and Bridget, brother Patsy and sister Mish. John will be sadly missed and forever remembered with love by his family, his cherished children Stephen, Lynda, David, Joanne, Karen and Emma, sons-in-law Hugh Quaine and Declan O'Neill, daughter-in-law Annamaire, his adored grandchildren Seán, Erin, Robyn, Rían, Evan, Elliot, Ryan, Evie, Finn, Cara, Senan, Saibh, Naoise and Donagh, brothers Michael and Declan (Tipperary), sisters-in-law, nephews,nieces, relatives and his wonderful neighbours and friends.

Your life was love and labour, Your love for your family true, You did your best for all of us, We will always love and remember you. Rest in Peace John.

Reposing on Monday, February 2 in St Matthew's Church, Ballymahon, Co Longford from 6pm until 8pm. Removal from his home on Tuesday, February 3 to arrive to St Matthew's Church for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Following Mass, John will be laid to rest in the family plot in Shrule Cemetery. Fresh flowers only please. Family home private please. 

Christopher Verdon, Glasnevin, Dublin / Longford

The death occurred peacefully at the Mater Hospital, in the presence of his loving family on Saturday, January 31, 2026 of Christopher Verdon, Glasnevin, Dublin and formerly of Co Longford.  

Predeceased by his dearly beloved wife Bernadette. Deeply cherished and greatly missed by his son Conor, daughter-in-law Maeve, adored grandsons Alistair and James, nephews and nieces, extended family, and wonderful friends and neighbours. Rest in peace.

Reposing at Fanagans Funeral Home, Lower Kimmage Road on Wednesday evening, February 4 from 5pm to 7pm. The death occurred unexpectedly but peacefully at home on Sunday, February 1, 2026 of Mick Dunne, Cloncoose, Longford Town, Longford. Predeceased by his sister Tess.

Mick will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, his beloved wife and best friend Maureen, daughters Sharon Donnelly, Orla Waters, and Maria Finneran, sons Thomas, Micheál, Johnny and Damien, sisters Mary and Anne, brother Noel, daughters-in-law Fiona and Joanne, sons-in-law David, James and Eoin, his cherished grandchildren Jake, Adam, Davin, Skye, Mark, Emma, Harry, Michael, Oisín, Abigail, Robyn, Darcy and Logan, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Tuesday, February 3 from 6pm concluding with prayers at 8.30pm. Derek Grante Cobbe, Gurteenorna, Longford

The death occurred following a prolonged illness.on Friday, January 30, 2026 of Derek Grante Cobbe, Gurteenorna, Longford and formerly of Rialto, Dublin.  

Predeceased by his parents David and Ada and his brother Stuart (Sandy). Survived by his brother Ivan (Maria). Derek was a former editor of the Longford Leader and subsequently was proprietor and editor of the Longford News. Derek was part of many families’ everyday life through his work as “Uncle Larry” over several decades. He also practised as a consultant hypnotherapist and served the community as a Commissioner for Oaths and Peace Commissioner.

Deeply missed by Sarah Strange (Aaron) and Noel Strange Jnr. (Linda) and by their parents Noel and Carmel Strange, who were family to him in every meaningful sense. Held in great affection by Aoife, Róisín and Méabh Quinn and by Ellie and Leo Strange, who cherished him as a grandparent.

He will be sadly missed by the Turner family and his lifelong friends in the circus world: Mona, Jacqueline, Stephen, John and Tommy Courtney and Peggy and Conor Kelly and his close neighbours Eithne and Dick Rafferty and many local friends.

Removal to Saint John’s Church, Battery Road, Longford on Monday evening February 2 arriving at 7:30pm. Funeral service will take place in Saint John’s Church, Battery Road, Longford, on Tuesday, February 3 at 12 noon, followed by burial in Saint Paul’s Church Cemetery, Newtownforbes. House Private Please.

Mary Catherine (Babs) Seery, Edenmore, Ballinamuck, Longford

The death occurred peacefully in the loving care of the nurses and staff of Cavan General Hospital on Saturday, January 31, 2026 of Mary Catherine (Babs) Seery, Edenmore, Ballinamuck, Co Longford. 

Predeceased by her parents Pakie and Anna Mae, brothers Jamsie (Australia), Sean (UK), Michael (Edenmore) and Tom (Main Street, Arva) and by her nephew Sean Jnr. Babs will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, sister Anna Rose (Leeds, U.K.), sister-in-law Margaret, nieces, nephews, relatives, wonderful carers, neighbours and great friends. The death occurred suddenly but peacefully, at Cavan General Hospital, surrounded by her loving husband Gerry and her family on Saturday, January 31, 2026 of Cecilia Richardson (née Mulligan), Cairn, Ballyjamesduff, and formerly of Lacken, Ballinagh, Co Cavan. 

Predeceased by her parents, Mike Joe and Rose. Sadly missed by her heartbroken husband Gerry; her brothers Padraig (Sharon), Michael, Frankie (Olivia), and Gerard (Eimear); her sisters, her twin Maggie (Maggie P), Rosie (Adrian), and Susan (Seamus).

The death occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the wonderful care of the staff of Arus Carolan, Mohill, Co Leitrim on Sunday, February 1, 2026 of Colette McGuinness (née Casey) Drumboy, Mohill, Co Leitrim and formerly of Aghalustia, Ballaghaderreen, Co. Roscommon.

Predeceased by her parents Michael and Annie Casey, her sisters Maura Ryan and brothers Larry, Seamus (Jim) and Oliver (Ollie). Colette will be sadly missed by her devoted husband Stephen and children Micheál (Ari), Denis (Christine), Gráinne (Michael) and Patrick. The death occurred peacefully at The Residence Nursing Home, Maynooth on Sunday, February 1, 2026 of Una Murphy (nee McGuire) Old Greenfield, Maynooth, Co. Kildare and late of Rathcoole, Co Dublin and Mohill, Co Leitrim.

Beloved wife of the late Frank and mother of the late Kevin and Marie. Deeply regretted by her loving daughter Liz, son Brian, daughter-in-law Carmel, son-in-law Pat, grandchildren Cristín, Sarah, Laura, Shane, Conor and Ellen, great grandchildren Adam, Darragh and Ben, sister Joan, brothers Vincent and Brian, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The death occurred peacefully in the loving care of Ballinamore Nursing home on Monday, February 2, 2026 of Michael Kilbane, Gardenstown, Carrick on Shannon, Co Roscommon.

Pre-deceased by his parents Bernard and Bridget, sisters Phyllis, Ann, Patricia and brother John. Michael will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his brothers Tony and Pat, sisters Mary, Eileen and Vera, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, grand-niece, grand-nephew, relatives, neighbours and friends. May his gentle soul Rest in peace.

Reposing in St Michael's church, Drumlion (N41 HD26) on Wednesday, February 4 from 5pm with concluding prayers at 7.15pm, Funeral mass on Thursday, February 5 at 12 noon, with burial immediately afterwards in Jamestown cemetery (N41 K2X8), Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim.
