The death occurred unexpectedly but peacefully at the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar, surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 24, 2026 of Phyllis Monaghan (née Hayden), Teffia Park, Longford Town, Longford. 

Predeceased by her parents Denis and Mary, sister Ethna and by her beloved husband Jimmy. Phyllis will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, daughters Fiona and Deirdre, son Adrian, son-in-law Dessie, grandchildren Jade, Rhys and Jack, great-grandchild Freya-rose, brother Sean, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, great neighbours and friends. May she rest in peace.

Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Tuesday, January 27 from 6pm concluding with prayers at 8pm. Mass of the Resurrection on Wednesday, January 28 at 11am in St Mel’s Cathedral, interment afterwards in Newtownforbes cemetery. The Funeral Mass will be streamed live HERE.

Vera Kiernan (née Daly), Rhyne, Killoe, Longford

The death occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Mullingar Regional Hospital on Thursday, January 22, 2026 of Vera Kiernan (née Daly), Rhyne, Killoe, Longford. 

Predeceased by her infant son Brendan-James, her parents James and May, sister Concepta and brother-in-law Pat. Vera will be sadly missed and forever remembered with love by her family, husband John-Joe, sons Robert, Adrian and Fintan, daughter-in-law Brid, Fintan's partner Michelle, sisters Annette (Athenry), Joan Lynch (Killucan, Westmeath), sisters-in-law Mary and Katriona, niece and nephews Assumpta, Ciaran and Declan, relatives, neighbours and her many life long friends. Reposing on Saturday, January 24 in St Oliver's Church, Cullyfad from 5pm with prayers at 7pm. Removal from her home on Sunday, January 25 to arrive to St Oliver's Church, Cullyfad for Funeral Mass at 12 noon. Following Mass, Vera will be laid to rest in the adjoining cemetery. Pete McLoughlin, Clonahard, Longford

The death occurred peacefully in the loving care of the nurses and staff of the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 of Pete McLoughlin, Clonahard, Longford. 

Predeceased by his parents John and Mary and by his sister Róisín O’Flynn. Pete will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, sister Maura (Cork), brother-in-law John, niece Johanna (Forde), nephews Willie-John and Finbarr, niece-in-law Anne, nephew-in-law Nicholas, grand-niece Philippa, grand-nephew Adam, relatives, exceptional neighbours and friends. Rose Dennigan (née Gilchrist), Treel, Ardagh, Longford

The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by her loving family and in the excellent care of the staff at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 of Rose Dennigan (née Gilchrist), Treel, Ardagh, Longford and formerly of Trillick, Longford. 

Predeceased by her husband Tom and her brothers Declan and John. Deeply regretted by her loving sons Liam and Thomas, her daughter Nora Whyte (Ballymore), her daughters-in-law Mary and Maggie, son-in-law Terry, devoted grandmother of Gareth, Lorcan, Cormac, Grace, Conor, Christopher, Darragh, Daniel and Gemma. Sadly missed by her sisters Teresa Quinn (Moydow), Mary Carty (Boyle) and Diane Rohan (Dublin), brothers Pat (Dublin) and Mike (Longford), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The death occurred on Thursday, January 15, 2026 of Richard McGarry of Eymet, France; Bradford, England; Miami, Florida and Johannesburg, South Africa; originally Clondra, Co Longford.

Predeceased by his parents Richard and Chris McGarry. Sadly missed and remembered with love by his wife Deborah, his children Shannon, Catherine, Nicholas, Matthew and Martin, son-in-law Ryan, daughters-in-law Leonie and Lilla, grandchildren Dylan, Emilia and Dahlia. brothers Michael and Paul, sisters Adele (Summers) and Suzanne (McCormack), brothers-in-law John and Micheal, sisters-in-law Jane and Rachel, all his nieces, nephews and cousins. Thomas Smyth, Pakenhamhall Road, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath

The death occurred peacefully, in his 91st year, after an illness borne with great dignity in the excellent care of the doctors, nurses and staff of the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar on Thursday, January 22, 2026 of Thomas Smyth, Pakenhamhall Road, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath and formerly of Ballintubber, Co Roscommon.

Tommy Joe was predeceased by his adored wife Ellen (Elsie), granddaughter Paula and his brothers and sisters gone before him. He is greatly missed by his children Marie, Anthony, Teresa and Margaret, and his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by his brother Denis, sisters Mary and Nora, nieces, nephews, relatives, kind neighbours and friends. May Tommy Joe Rest In Peace.

Funeral Mass on Monday, January 26 at 12 noon in St Michael's Church, Castlepollard, with burial afterwards in St Michael's Cemetery. The death occurred peacefully in the exceptional care of all of the staff at the Ballinamore Community Nursing Unit on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 of John Joseph Doherty Knockacullion, Aghacashel, Co Leitrim & formerly of Isle of Doagh, Co Donegal.

Predeceased by his wife Rita, his parents Packie and Cecily, brother Paddy, sister-in-law Mary and his brother-in-law Paddy. John will be sadly missed by his daughter Mary and son John, his daughter-in-law Stephanie, grandsons Harry and Tommy, his sisters; Mary (Joey) and Roseanne (Hugh), brother Michael (Peggy), nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends. The death occurred peacefully in the exceptional care of the dedicated staff of Ballinamore Community Nursing Unit and surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 22, 2026 of Peggy McKeon (née Stretton), Keshcarrigan, Co Leitrim and formerly of Drumbibe, Aughnasheelin, Co Leitrim.

Predeceased by her husband Ben and son Damian, brother Tommy and sisters Maura, Anne and Josie Mc Govern. Peggy will be lovingly remembered by her devoted family Jeanette Conefrey, Barbara Byrne, Kieran and Mairead, sons in law Gerard and Declan, daughter in law Mary, Mairead’s partner Paul. Cherished grandmother of Aisling (Mick), Jillian (Derek), Sinead (Kevin), Michelle (James), Aoife, Laura, Claire, Cian, Riona, Fionnan, Eabha and Heather, great grandsons Ben, Mike, Scott and Ethan, brother-in-law Seddie, sister-in-law Lily, nieces, nephews, neighbours and friends. Predeceased by her parents Brigid and James, brothers and sisters Seamus, Olive, Pauline, Pat, Ben, Rita, Theresa, Trudy and Frank. Deeply regretted and lovingly missed by her devoted family, husband Joe, children, Carol Ann, Kevin, Gary, Sinéad and Eithne, grandchildren, sons-in-law, Colm, Enda and John, daughters-in-law, Grace and Marta, cousins, Oliver and Ethna, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Cáit will repose at Hughes Funeral premises (A75 KC66) on Saturday, January 24 from 2pm to 6pm and privately amongst her family and friends at her home at all other times. Removal from her home on Monday morning, January 26 at 11.30 am arriving to St Mary’s Church, Castleblayney, for requiem mass at 12 noon, with burial afterward in the adjoining cemetery.
