Eithne Maguire (née Gannon), Templemichael Terrace, Longford Town, Longford

The death occurred in the loving care of the nurses and staff of the Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 of Eithne Maguire (née Gannon), Templemichael Terrace, Longford Town, Longford. 

Predeceased by her beloved husband Bernie, parents John and Mary, sisters May, Pauline, Bridget and Joan, by her brothers Joe and Noel and other extended family members. Eithne will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, sons Alan, Dermot and Desi, daughters-in-law Martina and Lilia, grandchildren Daniel, David, Rory, Amy and Victoria, sisters Angela Duffy and Carmel Earl, brother John, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

Mass of the Resurrection on Saturday, January 3, 2026 in St Mel’s Cathedral at 11am, interment afterwards in Ballymacormack cemetery. The Funeral Mass will be streamed live HERE. House private to family and close friends please.

 

Mary Whelan (née Kelly), Dublin Road, Longford town, Co Longford / Mayo

The death occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore on Sunday, December 28, 2025 of Mary Whelan MPSI (nee Kelly) Dublin Road and Main Street, Longford town and formerly of Bridge Street, Westport, Co Mayo. 

Predeceased by her husband Denny, her brother Hugh and by her parents P.F. and Nan Kelly. Deeply regretted by her loving sister Kitty McDonnell, (Cavan) and her niece Carmel Kelly (Galway), nephews Hugo Kelly and his partner Niamh (Galway), Aidan Kelly and his wife Helen and grandnieces Ruth & Beth (Castlebar). Sadly missed by the Whelan, Kelly and Duffy extended families and her many close friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.

Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81) on Thursday, January 1 from 5pm concluding with prayers at 7pm. Mass of the Resurrection on Friday, January 2 in St Mel’s Cathedral, Longford at 11am, interment afterwards in Ballymacormack cemetery. The Funeral Mass will be streamed live HERE

Jeffry George Lefroy, Crowenstown Little, Delvin, Westmeath / Longford

The death occurred in his 90th year, after a very long illness borne with great stoicism on Saturday, December 27, 2025 of Jeffry George Lefroy, Crowenstown Little, Delvin, Co Westmeath and formerly of Carrigglas Manor, Longford. 

Beloved husband of Tessa, brother of Laetitia and loving father of Langlois and Edward and grandfather of Kit. Much loved father-in-law of Valérie and Niki. Funeral Service to take place on Sunday, January 11 at 2pm at St James’ Church of Ireland, Athboy, Co. Meath C15 XD59, followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard. House private, please.

James Ellis, Newtownforbes, Longford

The death occurred peacefully in the loving care of the nurses and staff off Our Lady’s Manor, Nursing Home, Edgeworthstown on Thursday, December 25, 2025 of James Ellis, Woodview, Newtownforbes, Longford.

Predeceased by his parents Michael and Sabina and by his sisters Anne and Freda. James will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, daughter Katie, brother Tom, brother-in-law Joe, extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.

Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81), on Monday, January 5 from 5pm until 7pm. A private cremation will take place.

Kate Saunders (née Murney), Shannon Heights, Ballyleague, Roscommon / Longford

The death occurred suddenly but peacefully at home on Saturday, December 27, 2025 of Kate Saunders (née Murney), Shannon Heights, Ballyleague, Roscommon / Longford. 

Predeceased by her parents Matthews and Kathleen. Kate will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, her beloved husband Barry, daughters Nichola and Roxanne, sons Richard and Harry, sisters Alison (Lanesboro), Sharon (Tarmonbarry) and Pauline (Scramogue), brothers Matt (Scotland) and Drew (Scotland), grandchildren Bella, Oscar, Olivia-Rea, Harper-rose, Willow and Beau, step-children Andrew, Vicky, Natalie and Michael and their children Luke, Noah and Finley, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

In keeping with Kate’s wishes, her funeral will remain private to family and close friends. The family very much appreciate your support at this time. Family flowers only please donations if desired to ISPCA Kenagh. House private please.

Mary Daly (née Reilly), Ashgrove, Ballinagh, Cavan

The death occurred peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 of Mary Daly (née Reilly), Ashgrove, Ballinagh and formerly Cavan Road, Ballinagh, Cavan. Predeceased by her husband Henry, parents Peter and May, brothers Brian, Alfie, George and Peter, sister Kathleen.

Sadly missed by her loving sons Henry (Orla), Raymond (Ruth) and Dillan, daughters, Mary and Muriel, her adored grandchildren Craig, Sarah, Nicole, Jack, Oisin, Erin, Tiarnan, Ruadhan, Kyle, Ryan, Noah, Nicholas, sisters Nellie and Jean, brothers Bob, John-Joe and Willie, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing at Lakelands Funeral, Dublin Road, Cavan on Friday evening, January 2, 2026 from 4pm until prayers at 6.30pm.

Removal on Saturday morning, January 3 to St Felim's Church, Ballinagh to arrive for Requiem Mass at 12 noon, interment afterwards in the New Cemetery, Ballinagh. Funeral Mass will be streamed live HERE. May her gentle soul rest in peace. Family flowers only please, donations to Dialysis Unit Cavan Hospital.

Patricia (Patsy) McGovern, Mohill, Leitrim

The death occurred in the wonderful care of the staff at Arus Carolan Nursing Home in Mohill on Monday, December 22, 2025 of Patricia (Patsy) McGovern, Mohill, Leitrim. 

Patsy is predeceased by her loving husband Phil and will be sadly missed by her sister Bernadette, her nieces and nephews, relatives, her good friend Declan Feeney and other friends and neighbours.

Reposing at Smith’s Funeral Home, High Street Ballinamore (N41 TD62) on Sunday, January 4 from 3pm to 5pm. Funeral will take place on Monday, January 5 at 12 noon in St Patrick's Church, Mohill followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Joan Nea, Castlepollard, Westmeath

The death occurred at home, surrounded by her loving and heartbroken family after battling a long illness on Thursday, December 11, 2025 of Joan Nea, Basildon, Essex, England and formerly of Castlepollard, Co. Westmeath, aged 82.

Predeceased by her husband Martin. Sadly missed by her loving children Pauline, Stephen and Tina, her adored grandchildren Nichola, Melissa, Martha, Siobhan and Kieran, great-grandchildren Leonyedus, Eoin, Patrick and Ahreay, daughter-in-law Lorraine, son-in-law Paul, Nichola's partner Tony, Melissa's partner Leon, Martha's husband Noel; brother David and his family in Australia; and a wide circle of friends.
