George Taaffe, ‘Rockfield’, Moyne, Co Longford, N39 K8H3 / Athy, Kildare


The death occurred peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2024 of George Taaffe, “Rockfield”, Moyne, Co Longford N39 K8H3 and formerly of Athy, Co Kildare. (Former principal of Dromard National School).
Predeceased by his parents John and Kathleen and by his brothers Seamus and Jack. George will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, his beloved wife Eileen, daughters Paula Gorman (Maynooth) and Susan Keane (Lanesboro), sons Barry (Glenfarne), Declan (Clane) and David (Australia), brothers Tony and Francis, daughters-in-law Oonagh, Lisa and Elaine, sons-in-law Kevin and Brendan, his beloved grandchildren Conor, Niall, Holly, Orla, Leon, Amy, Bella, Phoenix and Tara, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. May he rest in peace.
Reposing at his residence (N39 K8H3) on Saturday, January 27 from 3pm until 5pm and again on Sunday, January 28 from 3pm until 5pm. Removal on Monday, January 29 to arrive at St Francis Xavier Church, Moyne for Mass of the Resurrection at 12 noon, interment afterwards in Legga cemetery. The family home will be private on Monday morning, January 29 please. The family would like to acknowledge the great care and kindness shown to George by the nurses and staff of Laurel Lodge Nursing Home whilst in their care.

Tom Whitford, Lisduff , Longford Town, Longford


The death occurred peacefully in the loving care of the staff of Laurel Lodge Nursing Home on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 of Tom Whitford, Lisduff, Longford town. Predeceased by his parents Carter and Ethel and by his brother Norman. Tom will be sadly missed and remembered with love by his family, wife Pamela, son David, daughter-in-law Lisa, grandson Henry, sisters Rosemary White and Phoebe, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, niece, nephews, relatives and friends.
Resting at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road on Friday, January 26 from 3.30pm until 5.30pm followed by removal to St Catherine’s Church, Ballymacormack for 6pm. Funeral Service on Saturday, January 27 at 2pm, interment afterwards in the adjoining Churchyard.
Family flowers only please, donations if desired to the Longford Branch of the Alzheimer’s Society , c/o Glennon Funeral Directors or any family member. “ Safe in the Arms of Jesus”. House private please.

Josephine (Josie) McKeon, Cloonany, Longford / Crumlin, Dublin


The death occurred peacefully in the company of her family and in the exceptional care of the staff of Laurel Lodge Nursing Home on Thursday, January 25, 2024 of Josephine (Josie) McKeon, Crumlin, Dublin and formerly of Cloonany, Longford. 
Predeceased by her parents Catherine and Michael and by her sister Kathleen Gillooly (Ballymoe). Josie will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, sister Mary West (Ardagh) , brother Oliver (Cloonany), her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews, sister-in-law Angela, brother-in-law Cooke and by a wide circle of relatives and friends. May Josie’s gentle soul rest in peace.
Josie will repose at Laurel Lodge Nursing Home Chapel (N39 XE92) on Friday, January 26 from 5.30pm concluding with prayers at 8.00pm. Requiem Mass in St Anne’s Church, Curry at 11am on Saturday, January 27, interment afterwards in Ballymacormack Cemetery.

Helen Teevan (née Kearney) The Pines, Beaufort Place, Navan, Meath / Longford Town, Longford

The death occurred peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in the tender care of the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 of Helen Teevan (nee Kearney), The Pines, Beaufort Place, Navan and late of Dublin Street, Longford town.
Predeceased by her son Frank. Helen, beloved wife of Frank and loving mother of John, Rose, Mary and Garry. Very sadly missed by her family, brother Brendan (Sheila), sisters Tesh, Vi-Vi (Matthew) and Dolores, daughter in law Stephanie, son in law Luke, grandchildren Brian, Sara, Desmond, Denise, Nicole, Alexandra, Grace and Charlotte, great-grandchildren Aya Marley, Luka, Cecelia and Frankie, nephews, nieces and friends. May Helen Rest In Peace.
Reposing at home on Sunday afternoon, January 28 from 3pm-7pm. Removal on Monday morning, January 29 to arrive in St Oliver's Church, Navan for Funeral Mass at 10am followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan at 12.30pm. House private at all other times please.
The Teevan family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of the ICU in Drogheda for the care, warmth and compassion shown to Helen and themselves in the last few days. Also, their sincere and heartfelt thanks to Kathleen, Ruth, Fathuma, Joy and all the Bluebird Care team for their professionalism and wonderful care of Helen. 

Eileen Penrose (née Costello), The Woods, Buncrana, Donegal / Ballynacargy, Westmeath


The death occurred, peacefully at her daughter’s residence, Buncrana, surrounded by her devoted family, on Thursday, January 25, 2024 of Eileen Penrose (nee Costello) late of Buncrana, Co. Donegal, formerly of Ballinahown, Co. Galway and London. Recently predeceased by her husband Leo, her parents Michael & Nora Costello and brother Paudric. Deeply missed by her heartbroken daughters Eileen (Ronan) and Alice (Doherty), sons-in-law John and Patrick, devoted grandchildren James and Alice, her brothers and sisters, Michael, Bridie (McDonagh), Maura (Fairman), Ned, Sean, Martin and Joe, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, relatives and many friends. May Eileen’s gentle soul rest in peace.

Westmeath N91 Y291 from 5.30pm. Arriving to Church of The Nativity, Ballynacargy for requiem mass on Monday,  January 29, 2024, at 11am with burial after in Sonna Cemetery.

Leo McGirl, Ratoath, Meath / Aughavas, Leitrim


The death occurred, peacefully in the loving care of Marymount Care Centre, Westmanstown, Co. Dublin, on Thursday, January 25, 2024 of Leo McGirl of Ratoath, Co. Meath and Camber, Aughavas, Co Leitrim. Predeceased by his devoted wife Rose and brother Charlie. Beloved father of Aine & Fergal and grandfather of Kate. Leo will be deeply mourned and sadly missed by his brother Pat, his son-in-law Joe and daughter-in-law Michelle. His generous nature, his loyalty and mischievous spirit will be lovingly remembered by all of his family, and by his wide circle of friends & neighbours. Suaimhneas síoraí dá anam uasal. The death occurred, peacefully at his home, surrounded by family on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 of Myles James Doyle, Surrey, England and formerly Toghnaross, Kilcogy, Cavan. Predeceased by his parents Tim and Mary Kate and brother Hugh. Deeply missed by his wife Nora, sisters-in-law Olive and Ann, brother-in-law John, nieces, nephews, kind neighbours, relatives and friends. May he rest in peace.

The death occurred peacefully at Cavan General Hospital on Thursday, January 25, 2024 of Helen Leddy, Dingins, Corlismore, Cavan. Predeceased by her sister Mary, her brother Mick, recently her brother Vincent and more recently by her brother James, Deeply regretted by her two sisters Nuala and Julia, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, brothers-in-law, extended family and many good friends and neighbours. Rest in Peace.
Removal of her remains to arrive at the Church of the Holy Family, Loch Gowna (H12 FT54) on Friday, January 26 for 6pm. Helen's funeral mass will take place on Saturday, January 27 at 12 noon with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

Cyril Bardon, Castlepollard, Co Westmeath


The death occurred peacefully at Mullingar Midlands Regional Hospital, after a long illness bravely borne on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 of Cyril Bardon, Hanwell, London and formerly of Cloughan and Castlepollard, Co Westmeath.
Predeceased by his father John and brother Joseph. Survived by his loving wife Mary, son Stephen and daughter Danielle, his mother Maureen, brothers Declan, Sean and Malcolm, sisters Collette and Catherine, grandchildren Cormac and Fíadh, son in-law Darragh, daughter in-law Deirdre, father in-law Johnny, mother in-law Maura, brothers in-law, sisters in-law, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, extended family and a wide circle of friends. Reposing at No. 23 New Glenview, N91 EK03 on Friday, January 26 from 4pm till 8pm, house strictly private thereafter. Removal to St Michael's Church, Castlepollard on Saturday, January 27 for 11am funeral mass, burial afterwards to adjoining cemetery. The family would like to thank all the staff at the Royal Brompton Hospital, Ealing Hospital and Mullingar Midlands Regional hospital for their continued support and care for Cyril throughout his illness.

Lynda (Martha) Curr (née Bystram) Allenbrook, Drumshanbo, Co Leitrim


The death occurred of Lynda (Martha) Curr (nee Bystram) of Allenbrook, Drumshanbo Co Leitrim, formerly of Shearwater, Woking, Surry, England. My wife Lynda (Martha) was from a large wonderful family (Bystram) too extensive to name here, they all loved her dearly and will miss her as long as they live on. We have two children, Stephen (Alfie), and Hannah. Seven grandchildren, Joseph, Luca, Finn, Taeya, Sunee, Felix and Laila. We are all lost for words to say how much she will be missed. May She Rest In Peace.

The death occurred peacefully on Thursday, January 25, 2024 of Eleanor Gannon, Slí an Iarainn, Cotober, Carrick-On-Shannon, Co Roscommon & formerly of Corbally, Elphin, Roscommon. 
Predeceased by her parents Josie & Helen & Brother Noel. Eleanor will be sadly missed by her loving family, Sisters, Mary O' Connor (Cork), Bernadette Molloy (Drumshanbo), Patricia O' Dowd (Croghan), Elizabeth O' Hara (Elphin) & Brothers John (Elphin) & Joseph (London), Sister-in-Law Helena, Brothers-in-Law Matthew, Joseph, Alo & Michael, Nieces, Nephews, Grand-nieces, Grand-nephews, Cousins, Relatives, Neighbours & Friends. Bernadette (Bernie) Youngs (née Cusack) London and formerly of Garrymore, Ballinagh, Co Cavan


The death occurred peacefully at Kings College Hospital, London on Thursday, January 4, 2024 of Bernadette (Bernie) Youngs (nee Cusack), London and formerly of Garrymore, Ballinagh, Co Cavan. Predeceased by her husband Martin Youngs. Much loved mother of Shane and Siobhan Youngs. Sadly missed by her granddaughter Erin Youngs, her brother Owen Cusack and sisters Kathleen Coyle, Agnes O’Connor, Rose O’Shea and Frances Foy, her nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Reposing in St Mary of the Crays Church, Crayford on Wednesday, January 31 from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral service at 10:30am on Thursday, February 1 followed by cremation at Eltham Crematorium at 12:30.
