Liam Moran, California, USA and a native of Longford
The death occurred, peacefully while surrounded by family, on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 of Liam Moran, California, USA and a native of Longford. His loving, generous and humorous spirit touched so many during his life.
Liam, one of eight siblings, was born in County Longford, Ireland, where he resided for 18 years before becoming a radio officer in the Merchant Marine. For over 10 years, Liam literally sailed the seven seas - passing through the Panama Canal 33 times - before ultimately disembarking in Long Beach, CA in 1961. He later ventured to San Francisco, and with a business partner, took over ownership of Alec Nursery in Colma, CA in 1967 and established two additional garden centres in San Mateo and San Jose, CA. After serving as a mainstay for so many landscapers and home gardeners in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 30 years, Liam retired in 2000 to spend time traveling and passionately cultivating his own home garden.
Liam is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Morrelle; sons Eamon (Ashley) of Wilton, CT, Darrell (Roberta) of Luanda, Angola, and Kevin (Alejandra) of Campbell, CA; and grandchildren Meredith, Katherine, Fiona, and Mateo. He is also survived by his loving nieces Dara Galligan of County Wicklow, and Grania Fitzgerald of London, England, and nephews David Powell of San Clemente, CA, Tom Higgins of County Sligo, Brian Higgins of Malaga, Spain, Paul Higgins of County Longford, Declan Higgins of London, England, and Niall Higgins of Cannes, France.
Friends and family celebrated Liam’s life with a Memorial Mass and subsequent reception on April 28, 2023 at St Bartholomew Church, followed by a private interment at St John’s Cemetery, in San Mateo, CA.
