Ladies Football Leinster Junior Club Championship Quarter-Final

St Vincent’s (Dublin) . . . 1-16 Colmcille . . . 2-3

Forced to field without the injured Michelle Farrell in a major setback, Colmcille found the going too tough against St Vincent's who won with considerable comfort in the Leinster Junior Football Championship quarter-final at Fr McGee Park on Saturday.

Played in extremely difficult wet and windy conditions, the stronger Dublin side inflicted most of the damage with the advantage of the significant wind in the first half to build up a commanding 1-9 to 0-1 lead at the break.

The killer blow was struck when a dipping shot from prominent centre-half-back Tessa Lambe ended up in the back of the net on the stroke of half-time and it could have been worse for Colmcille as the visitors failed to convert a couple of clear-cut goal chances.

Aided by the wild weather on the changeover, the north Longford outfit were given a glimmer of hope with goals from Nessa Farrelly and Ruth Jones (a speculative strike) in the early stages of the second half but St Vincent’s gradually regained control to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Particularly impressive was midfielder Roisin Giilmore who fired over five points in the second half and the wide margin of 10 points separated the sides in the end as gallant Colmcille made their exit from the Leinster Championship.

It mattered little when St Vincent’s were reduced to 14 players after wing back Roisin Rooney received a yellow card in the 54th minute as the match was all over as a contest.
