Away to Offaly champions Ballinamere Durrow on Sunday

Unlucky losers against the Dublin and Leinster champions Kilmacud Crokes in the opening round last season, the Longford Slashers ladies will be hoping to make an extended run in the current provincial series.

Providing the opposition in the Leinster senior club quarter-final on Sunday (throw-in 2pm) will be the two-in-a-row Offaly champions Ballinamere Durrow and their star player is lethal attacker Saorah Doyle.

The danger Doyle clocked up the tremendous total of 3-4 in the 3-8 to 0-14 win over Naomh Ciaran in the county final and Ballinamere Durrow moved on to beat St Conleth’s (Laois) 4-10 to 3-8 to cross the first hurdle in Leinster on Sunday last.

Home advantage in Durrow (situated close to Tullamore, R35NW14) is a plus for the Offaly girls but it will be a big upset should the very experienced 8-in-a-row Longford senior champions fail in their quest to reach the semi-finals a week later.

After their struggle to overcome Clonguish in the recent county final, the Slashers manager Sean Meenaghan will be demanding an overall improvement in the fierce desire to make further progress in the province.

Colmcille are also in Leinster club quarter-final action when they face Dublin opponents St Vincent’s at Fr McGee Park on Saturday (throw-in 2pm) after taking Tyrrellspass down in the Junior Championship first round clash last weekend.
