The Matchmaker comes to the Backstage Theatre this Friday night
Sive is making a comeback in the Bog Lane Theatre (see page 9) this weekend, but it's not the only John B Keane play to be hitting a local stage in the coming days.
The Backstage Theatre will be presenting The Matchmaker in Longford this Friday, March 29 at 8pm.
Based on the novella, Letters of a County Matchmaker, by John B Keane, this one promises to be a great night of entertainment.
The play is directed by Michael Scott and actors Jon Kenny and Mary McEvoy will play a myriad of characters in the hilarious and earthy dramatic comedy.
The play follows Dicky O'Connor in his efforts to make matches for the lonely and lovelorn.
Using his inimitable way with words and his sense of “devilment” and wit, Keane delves into the longings, hungers, fears and foibles of this collection of lonely country people and creates a marvelously colourful world, taking us back to a simpler time, when phones were few and far between and the only web was one left behind by spiders.
Tickets for this showing are completely sold out, but in case of cancellations, the box office can be contacted via 043 33 47888.
