The Late Peter Galligan, Glasscarrick, Loughduff, Cavan
Peter Galligan, Glasscarrick, Loughduff, passed away peacefully in the loving care of his devoted family on Wednesday, January 14 last.
Born on June 22, 1939, Peter had been ill for some time and his passing is regretted over a wide area where he was known for his wide smile and friendly chatty nature. He was predeceased by his parents Conor and Frances (nee Moynagh), his brother Patrick, sister Sr Margaret (Sisters of Mercy, Colwyn Bay) and his darling grandson Tiarnán.

In his young days Peter left his native Glasscarrick and emigrated to New York and it was there he met his future wife the lovely Brigid Frawley from Miltown Malbay in county Clare and following their marriage they returned home in 1973 and settled there and raised their six children.
With farming stock in his blood Peter loved the land, the farm work and all that it entailed.
When the Young Farmers Association was set up in the local hall, later to be replaced by Macra na Feirme, Peter became an active member. The Agricultural shows were going strong at the time and with his love of animals he was nominated to represent Macra at Stock Judging competitions and ended up winning several medals of which he was very proud. On one occasion he travelled to Scotland to judge.
Peter was a great community man, he took an interest in all affairs, he was well read and had a great interest in politics and the fortunes of the football teams and all parish affairs.
Peter was first and last a family man, he was devoted to Brigid and his children and was very proud of their achievements and when the grandchildren arrived he took them to his heart and they in turn adored their Gogga.
Peter was a gentleman and a good neighbour, he was always available when the need arose to help out.

His remains reposed in Our Lady of Lourdes church, Mullahoran on Friday evening, January 16 where an overflowing congregation paid their respects to one of their own, and again at the funeral on Saturday. The requiem mass was celebrated by Fr Joe McGrath P.P. assisted by Fr P J Hughes and Fr Dermot Prior and burial followed at the local cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.
