Thousands of drivers on Irish roads never sat a driving test

THOUSANDS of people on their third or subsequent learner permit have never sat a driving test.

Up to 30,000 motorists on their third or subsequent permit since 2018 have been driving without ever taking a driving test.

The figures were supplied to The Irish Times by the Road Safety Authority, and span from 1994 to now.

28,570 drivers were on a third or subsequent learner permit first issued between 2018 and 2009, according to the Road Safety Authority.
