Manhunt underway in Donegal after nine-year-old boy killed in hit and run
A nine-year-old boy was tragically killed in a hit-and-run collision in Bundoran on Saturday night.
Gardai have launched a manhunt after the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene.
The fatal collision occurred at Atlantic Way, Bundoran shortly after 9.20pm.
The young boy, a pedestrian, who was struck by the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene a short time later.
Gardai and emergency services rushed to the scene. The boy’s body was removed the mortuary at Sligo Hospital.
The local Coroner and office of the State Pathologist have has been notified and arrangements will be made for a post-mortem examination.
Traffic diversions are in place and the scene has been preserved for examination by scenes of crime officers and Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.
Gardai in Ballyshannon are leading an investigation into the collision and an appeal has been issued.
A spokesperson told Donegal Live: “Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are particularly appealing to the driver of the vehicle to come forward.
“Investigating Gardaí are also appealing to those with video footage, including dash cam recordings, from Atlantic Way and Sea Road and the general area at the time, to make it available to them.
