Promising Mountrath, Co Laois apprentice Reese Holohan again advertised his talents when Dawn Flame picked up the mile handicap for three-year-olds at Dundalk on Friday.
Holohan always had his mount close to the pace, in second position before assuming the lead at the turn into the straight and hang on for a half-length success at odds of 18-1. The 11-4 second favourite Whatchadoin trained by Josh Halley finished second.

This was the rider’s fourth winner since his debut success in the middle of December.
Longford trainer Paul Flynn was sending out his second winner at a track in just over a week and said: “We fancied this horse last week but he seemed to freeze with greenness. He has come on for the run since then and sure he only had eight stone (in weight to carry).
“The jockey is a good young lad,” the trainer added. “He caught my eye here last week. He is useful.”
Meanwhile, Flanker Jet had knocked on the door a few times, but he finally got an answer for Mullingar trainer Robson Aguiar at Dundalk last Friday.

This horse had been fancied on occasions before and come up short, but at the sixth attempt he got the job done with Gary Carroll in the saddle in the 7f maiden for three-year-olds.
It was the Kildare-born rider’s first day back at the races since sustaining a leg injury in November.
In the colours of the trainer’s wife, Giselle, Flanker Jet made all of the running and had to repel a few challenges in the closing stages. He scored by half a length at odds of 5-2 from the 11-8 favourite Astronomically, trained by Donnacha O’Brien.
