Longford / Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy
The Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) is set to further investigate former Minister of State Robert Troy in respect of his declaration during the period 2020 to 2022 where the Longford Westmeath TD said he “made an error” that was “based on a flawed interpretation of the legislation”.
In a statement to The Leader Deputy Troy said he looks forward to “cooperating fully”.
SIPO is to further investigate former Minister of State Robert Troy's failure to declare all his property and business interests on the Dáil register during the period 2020 to 2022.
The political watchdog acknowledged there was “no prima facie evidence to support any suggestion that there was a conflict of interest relating to Deputy Troy's public declarations”.
The Longford Westmeath TD said he welcomed the results of the SIPO investigation: “I welcome the finding by the Standards in Public Office Inquiry Officer that there is no prima facie evidence to support any suggestion that there was a conflict of interest relating to my public statements regarding Rental Accommodation Scheme funding during my time in ministerial office.”
Deputy Troy amended the register and resigned from his position as Minister of State in 2022 when the register errors came to light.
The Fianna Fáil TD said of SIPOs latest statement: “I note that the SIPO Commission have decided to proceed to investigation under section 23 of the Ethics in Public Office Act 1995 in relation certain omissions regarding declarations I have previously made, and have subsequently corrected, during the period from 2020 to 2022.
“I have already acknowledged that I made an error in this regard based on a flawed interpretation of the legislation pertaining.”
Deputy Troy concluded: “I look forward to cooperating fully and am hopeful that the Commission will conclude its investigation in a timely manner. I won't be making any further comments.”
