A defendant facing charges of assault and false imprisonment will have his case heard in Longford Circuit Court.

Nathan Lynam (31) of Hollygrove, Killynon Cooke, Cloughan, Westmeath was before Judge Bernadette Owens in the District Court on two charges.

The court was told that the Book of Evidence was served on the defendant by Garda Glen Flanagan on the day of the court sitting.

Mr Lynham faces charges that on July 11 2022 at Apartment 25 Newcastle House, Ballymahon, Longford he committed an assault and on the same date and in the same location he falsely imprisoned a woman.

A defendant facing five charges relating to incidents in June of this year will have the charges against him dealt with in the Circuit Court.

Solicitor Mark Cooney represented Mr Lynham at the District Court sitting. Judge Owens directed that the defendant be sent forward for trial on the two counts. A Section 56 Order, which relates to the prosecution furnishing a copy of any recording of the questioning of the person by a member of the Garda Síochána to the defence, was made by Judge Owens.

The judge issued the defendant with an alibi warning and directed that the defendant be remanded on bail on his own bond of €200 on conditions previously set out. Mr Lynham was granted legal aid to cover his solicitor and two counsels at the Circuit Court sitting.
