Longford man to stand trial on threats to kill, knife possession and unlawful taking of vehicle

A defendant facing five charges relating to incidents in June of this year will have the charges against him dealt with in the Circuit Court.

The accused, David Stafford (47) of 70 Ard Na Cassa Avenue, Ballinalee Road, Longford, is before the court in respect of matters that occurred on two separate dates.

The first charge against the defendant is that on June 24, 2023 at he entered a Longford private dwelling as a trespasser.

The other four counts relate to an incident on June 22, 2023 at Townspark Industrial Estate, Longford.

Mr Stafford is accused of possession of a knife, two counts of threatening to kill a named individual and taking possession of a vehicle without the consent of the owner.

Garda Eamonn Flanagan gave evidence of serving the book of evidence on the defendant on the morning of the court sitting.

Solicitor Brid Mimnagh said her client was not making a bail application. The solicitor made an application to extend legal aid to cover one counsel when the matter comes before the Circuit Court.

After issuing the defendant with an alibi warning Judge Bernadette Owens directed that Mr Stafford be sent forward for trial in the Circuit Court on October 3.

Legal aid was assigned.

Charges of property damage to a window at 2 Palace Crescent Longford on April 23, 2023 and of failing to keep a court appointment are to be dealt with summarily on September 22.
