New farming group for Teagasc : exciting initiative is taking root in counties Roscommon and Longford
A new and exciting initiative is taking root in counties Roscommon and Longford with the establishment of a Women in Farming group designed to support, connect, and empower local female farmers.
As the agricultural landscape continues to evolve, women are playing an increasingly vital role in family farms, agri-business, and rural development. This group aims to recognise that contribution and provide a dedicated space where women can learn, lead, and thrive.

The Roscommon/Longford women in Farming group will offer regular meetings, practical workshops, and expert-led discussions on topics ranging from tams grants and financial planning to sustainable farming practices and diversification opportunities. It will also serve as a valuable networking hub, allowing members to share experiences, build confidence, and develop new skills in a supportive environment.
By bringing women together from all corners of the two counties, the group hopes to foster collaboration, highlight the importance of gender balance in agriculture, and encourage more women to take active roles in decision-making on farms and within the wider agricultural community.
Whether you’re managing a farm, helping with day-to-day operations, exploring agri-careers, or simply passionate about rural life, this new group welcomes you. Roscommon and Longford’s farming future is stronger when women are empowered, and this initiative is a proud step in that direction.
