An unlikely axis between Fine Gael local councillor Paraic Brady and OPW Minister Kevin 'Boxer' Moran appears to have been set in stone after the Independent Alliance TD was given an insight into north Longford's present day flooding concerns.

Mr Moran was taken on a whistle stop tour of the Ballinamuck and Drumlish area where he met a number of local farmers and landowners. As a result, Mr Moran vowed to allocate around €35,000 for flood relief measures to be carried out.

It's expected the bulk of the monies will go towards cleaning three rivers locally, namely the Greagh River, Bandra River and part of the Black River.

“Great credit must go to Kevin 'Boxer' Moran on this one,” said Cllr Brady.

“This is much needed funding for flood relief in the area.”

Cllr Brady also urged any farmers and local groups with flood related concerns to make contact with him on 086-1066818 or email on pbrady@longfordcoco.ie
