The death occurred, peacefully, in the loving care of the staff of Thomond Lodge Nursing Home, on Thursday, February 9, 2023 of Christina (Chris) Byrne (née O'Brien), Abbeyshrule, Longford. She was a native of Cornamuckla, Aughavas parish, Co. Leitrim. Predeceased by her loving husband Jimmie, brothers Seamus and Tommy, sisters Brede and Kay. Chris will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by her loving family James, Mary and David, daughters in law Laura, Cepta and her adoring grandchildren Jimmie, Ellen, Seán, Juliette, Charlie, Conor and Niall, her brother Paddy and sisters Nellie ( Moroney), Patsy (O'Reilly) and Josie (Carr), sister in law Myrnie, brother in law Michael, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. Chris will repose at her son David's house, Abbeyshrule from 4pm until 8pm this Saturday, February 11. Requiem Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, February 12 at 12pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Abbeyshrule, burial afterwards in Abbeyshrule Cemetery. Family flowers only, donations in lieu to The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, Temple Rd, Blackrock, Co Dublin.

Ann O'Boyle, Mount Anville, Dundrum, Dublin / Kenagh, Longford


The death occurred, peacefully, in the compassionate care of the nursing and medical staff at Our Lady’s Hospice, Harold’s Cross, Dublin, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 of Ann O'Boyle, Mount Anville, Dundrum, Dublin / Kenagh, Longford. Predeceased by her father Barney and her nephew Ciarán. Ann will be forever loved and sadly missed by her mother Deirdre, her sisters Elizabeth and Marie, her brothers Martin, Paddy, Bernard, Raymond, Eoin and Peter, her sisters-in-law Mary (McGuinness), Jacinta (Higgins), Sandra (Cullen), Grainne (Farrell) and Deirdre (Casey), brothers-in-law Gerry Beirne and Tony Coyle, her nieces, nephews and grand-nephew, her aunts, cousins, extended family and her lifelong group of friends. She has gone no further from us than to God and God is very near.
Reposing at Glennon’s Funeral Home, Ballinalee Road (N39 EC81), Longford on Friday, February 10 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm concluding with prayers at 7.30pm. Mass of the Resurrection at 11am on Saturday, February 11 in St Dominic’s Church, Kenagh (N39 T389) followed by burial afterwards in Kilcommock Cemetery. Family flowers only. Tony Gray, 4 Park Villas, Park Road, Longford


The death occurred, peacefully, surrounded by his family and in the excellent care of the nurses and staff at the Ciúin Suite, Mullingar Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 of Tony Gray, 4 Park Villas, Park Road, Longford and formerly of Chapel Street, Longford. He is predeceased by his parents Thomas and Kathleen, brothers Joseph, Patrick, John, Gerard and Dermott and sisters Angela and Veronica. Tony will be sadly missed by his family, son Justin, daughter Kerri, daughter-in-law Emma, his adored grandchildren Shelley, Eoin, Áine, Tommy and Ella, sisters Joan and Bernadette, brother-in-law Peter, sister-in-law Jean, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Rest in Peace Tony.
Reposing in Connell's Funeral Home, Church Street, Longford, on Friday, February 10 from 4pm followed with removal to St Mel's Cathedral, Longford, for prayers at 6pm. Valerie McCreanor (née Wexler), Coolnahinch, Longford


The death occurred, peacefully surrounded by her family and friends in Midlands Regional Hospital Tullamore after a short illness, on Monday, February 6, 2023 of Valerie McCreanor (nee Wexler), Coolnahinch, Longford. Predeceased by her parents Jack and Jenny and her son Martin. Valerie will be greatly missed by her daughter Jackie (UK), sisters Pattie (Australia) and Gloria (UK), grandsons Joseph and Jacob, close friend Jean, nieces, nephews, relatives and a wide circle of friends in Ireland and the UK. May she rest in peace.
Reposing at Glennon's Funeral Home on Thursday, February 9 from 6pm concluding with prayers at 8pm. Mass of the Resurrection on Friday, February 10 at 11am in St Oliver's Church Cullyfad, interment afterwards in the adjoining graveyard. The death occurred, peacefully, in Tullamore Regional Hospital, on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 of Cristian Albu, No 2 Canal Drive, Prospect Woods, Longford Town, Longford. Cristian will be sadly missed by his family, wife Carmen, daughters Cristina and Rebeca, mother Nicolae, brother Daniel, son-in-law Madalin, neighbours and friends. The death occurred, peacefully in his 91st year, in the care of the staff of Mullingar Regional Hospital, on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 of Drummond Colett Taylor, Corboy, Edgeworthstown, Longford. He is predeceased by his parents Morrison and Kathleen. Drummond will always be remembered by his family, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and his many dear friends. Safe in the arms of Jesus.

James (Jim) Walsh, Corwella, Edgeworthstown, Longford / Brosna, Kerry


The death occurred, peacefully, surrounded by his family at Mullingar Regional Hospital after a short illness, on Monday, February 6, 2023 of Jim Walsh, Corwella, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford and formerly of Knockavinna, Brosna, Co Kerry. Predeceased by his loving wife Mona. He will be dearly missed by his children, sons Tony and Mervyn, daughter Mary, son-in-law Damian and Tony's partner Orla, granddaughter Kate, brothers Mick and Pat and sister Ellen, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of neighbours and friends. The death occurred, suddenly and peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, February 6, 2023 of Josie Gaynor (née Mullooly), Rathcoole, Co Dublin, formerly of Torboy, Co Longford. Cherished wife and soulmate of her loving husband Peter and much loved mother of Aisling, Kevin and Andrew. Sadly missed by her sisters, Mary, Catherine and predeceased by her loving sister Cecilia. Also missed by her loving daughter-in-law Aisling, precious granddaughter Robin, sisters-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives, cousins, close neighbours and a large circle of friends. The death occurred, peacefully at her home in the loving care of her family, on Monday, February 6, 2023 of Peggy (Margaret) Corcoran (nee Briody), Rathcronan, Granard, Co Longford and formerly of Ferriskill, Granard. Predeceased by her beloved husband John, daughter Bernadette and son Larry. Peggy will be sadly missed and deeply regretted by her heartbroken family, Rena (Keogh), Martin, John, Mairead (McEvoy), Liz (Reynolds) Carmel (McBrien) and Tony, her adored 24 grandchildren, sons-in-law Peter, Patrick and Michael, daughters-in-law Diane, Caroline, Breda and Jacinta, sister Kathleen, brother Paddy (USA), brother-in-law Michael, nieces, nephews, relatives and a large circle of friends and neighbours. Mary Brigid Lane (née McCarthy), Dublin Road, Mullingar, Co Westmeath / Moatefarrell, Longford


The death occurred, peacefully in the tender care of Matron and staff at St Camillus Nursing Centre, Killucan, on Sunday, February 5, 2023 of Mary Brigid Lane (née McCarthy), ‘Oakmount’, Dublin Road, Mullingar, Co Westmeath and late of Drumnacross, Moatefarrell, Co Longford. Dearly loved wife of the late Michael (Miko) and devoted mother of Michael. Predeceased by her brothers Michael and John (Jack). Mary will be remembered with great love by her son and daughter-in-law Mary, her cherished grandchildren Oisín and Aisling, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and many friends, especially her greyhound racing friends. The death occurred, peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, January 5, 2023 of Maura Reilly, Bohey Rock, Drumlish, Longford and formerly of Caterham, Surrey, England. Predeceased by her parents Michael and Mary Ann. Maura will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her sisters Monica Thrapp (Longford), Betty Creton (Caterham) and Bernadette Rice (Dublin), her devoted nieces and nephews, Dawn, Tracey, Karen, Kate, Caitriona, Davey and Michéal, extended families, her brothers-in-law Willie Thrapp, Dave Creton, Charles Rice, cousins, relatives, neighbours and many good friends in Bohey Rock and Caterham. Michael Dowler, UK and Abbeyshrule, Longford


It is with great sadness that we announce the passing, which occurred peacefully on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, in Kettering General Hospital, of Michael Dowler, 1944-2023. Michael had so many memories of growing up in Abbeyshrule and the surrounding areas in Longford with his parents Michael and Kathleen Dowler and sister Nancy and cousin James Dowler. A loving Daddy to Nicola, Aileen, Kristine and Katie, grandad and friend to many. Funeral takes place in Saint Edwards Church, Kettering at 2pm on Friday, February 17, 2023.

The death occurred, suddenly, on Wednesday, February 6, 2023 of Ronan Moran, Aughnagallop, Drumshanbo, Leitrim.  Cherished son of John and Geraldine and adored brother of Kevin and Fergal. Sadly missed by hs devoted Aunts and Uncles, Abina, Ann, Niall and Joe and his loving cousins, Darragh, Eve and Ciaran. Remembered with love by his extended family, especially Colette and Tarah, his girlfriend, Kaitlyn and his wide circle of friends. May His Beautiful Soul Rest In Peace.

Westmeath and formerly of Newport, Co. Tipperary (Retired NT).
