207 Gardaí graduated from Templemore Garda College today, October 16, however no probationers have been assigned to Garda stations in Longford, Roscommon and Mayo.

Longford will not receive any Garda probationers following today’s passing out ceremony in Templemore Garda College.

Despite today’s graduation class - Intake 261 - being the largest single attestation class since pre-Covid-19, none of the 207 new Gardaí will be taking up a post in Longford, Roscommon and Mayo.

In the past, An Garda Síochána and the Department of Justice have come in for criticism from elected officials in Longford for failing to include the county in previous allocations despite a clear need for extra Garda resources.

During the last attestation, one new Garda probationer, Garda Donal Harrington, was assigned to Longford Garda Station.

The Garda trainees who graduated today consist of 136 male and 71 female.

24 of the students were born outside the state namely England, Eswatini, Moldova and Poland.

These 207 newly sworn Gardaí will now take on operational responsibilities in their newly assigned stations over the coming days.

84 probationers have been stationed in the Dublin region, while 76 are set to take up posts in the Eastern region.

27 members have been assigned to the North Western region while just 20 will go to the Southern region.

Today’s graduation also marks a significant milestone for An Garda Síochána as the organisation now has its highest number of sworn members in the history of the State.

There are currently 398 Garda Trainees currently in training in the Garda College with the next intake to enter the Garda College on the November 2.
