While he missed out on a medal at the World Championships in Tokyo, Longford's Cian McPhillips admitted to RTE's David Gillick that 'it's frustrating at the moment, but when I calm down, I'll come to appreciate it'.
Cian won his 800m heat and semi-final in considerable style and and his stunning closing 60m in the final saw him smash his own Irish record once again and he has certainly announced himself on the world stage.

He reflected, "It was a tough pace, a tough lane draw as well. I closed well. I've taken another second off my PB. It's frustrating at the moment, but when I calm down, I'll come to appreciate it. First European home in the worlds, I can't be too greedy."
"I ran out of real estate in the end. A lot of people have put a lot of hard work into me over the last few years. I'm not there yet, but it's starting to pay off."
"It would have been nice to get a medal, but we'll leave that for next time."
