There was a great buzz of excitement and a huge crowd in Market Square, Longford town this evening as Santa Claus officially switched on the Christmas lights.
The man from the North Pole required the children of Longford to engage in a second countdown before the lights were switched on to much applause and plenty of festive music and song.
The switching on ceremony brought the curtain down on a very successful Black Friday for the retailers of the Longford town.
Despite the cold weather, retailers reported brisk trading as the town welcomed shoppers who were keen to get their hands on red-hot Black Friday bargains.
‘Black Friday’ was promoted by the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
