40 new jobs are to be created in Longford and Leitrim by homecare provider Bluebird Care.

A mini tornado was observed by locals in the Bunlahy area of County Longford last week.

Local firm Gem Construction have been awarded the contract to rebuild St Mel’s Cathedral. The company hopes to begin work by the end of this month.

A voice recording of General Sean MacEoin has been made available on the Bureau of Military History website, along with photographs and documents of local interest.

Longford counciloors took home almost 600,000 euro in salaries and expenses last year, a slight increase on the figures for 2010.

In sport, Clonguish and Colmcille claimed impressive wins in the County Senior Championship, while in soccer Longford Town suffered a surprise defeat to Finn Harps in Division One of the Airtricty League, throwing their promotion ambitions into doubt.
