Drumlish lad to feature in historic FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan

Rising young soccer star Fionn McCormack Crowe from Drumlish is set to represent the Republic of Ireland on the world stage after being selected for the historic FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Azerbaijan.

The tournament marks a major milestone for young international footballers, and Fionn’s selection is a proud moment for his family, his hometown of Drumlish and the wider Longford football community.

Fionn’s football journey began on local pitches in Longford, where he developed his talent with Gaels United before spending time with Melview FC and progressing to Athlone Town’s League of Ireland academy.

His performances earned him a move to Shamrock Rovers, where he continues to develop as an attacking midfielder and left winger, playing with the U-15s while also training and featuring at U-17 level.

His progress has also been recognised internationally. Fionn has represented Ireland against opposition including Spain, Portugal, Greece, Ukraine and the Netherlands, scoring international goals against Greece and the Netherlands. He also captained Ireland during an underage development tournament against Portugal.

In another significant step in his development, Fionn was called up to the Republic of Ireland U-16 squad for a friendly against Wales in August this year. The call-up reflects his continued progression through the international age groups while still eligible for U-15 football.

Fionn has also been involved in the FAI Emerging Talent Programme and the National Academy Pathway at Abbotstown, providing further opportunities to develop his game and work towards his ambitions in football.

Away from soccer, Fionn has enjoyed success in other sports through Moyne Community School, Gaelic football and athletics. His achievements include captaining St Vincent’s GAA at U-14 level, being named Moyne soccer player of the year on two occasions and competing at All-Ireland level in cross-country and athletics.

An inspiration for grassroots football in Longford. His achievement is also an inspiration to the next generation of young footballers coming through grassroots football in Longford, particularly the young players at Gaels United and Melview FC, two clubs that formed part of his early football journey.

His story is a reminder that dreams of representing your country and playing on the world stage can begin on local pitches, close to home. Through hard work, dedication, a love of the game and the willingness to keep learning and improving, young players can give themselves the opportunity to go further than they ever imagined.

Fionn’s journey shows that you do not have to come from a big city or a famous academy to dream big. Sometimes those dreams begin in your own community, playing the sport you love with your friends.

His progression from grassroots football in Longford to representing Ireland at a FIFA World Cup, alongside earning a call-up to the Ireland U-16 squad, is a powerful example of what young players can aspire to achieve.

For Drumlish and the wider Longford community, Fionn’s selection is a source of enormous pride. As he prepares to represent his country in Azerbaijan, he carries with him the support of his family, his clubs and the community where his football journey began.
