Ballymahon Vocational School is currently the only secondary school in Ireland to be offered this internship opportunity with Schroders Greencoat Capital, London.

Five students from Ballymahon Vocational School (BVS) are set to travel to London this month for a week-long internship with leading renewable energy infrastructure investment manager Schroders Greencoat Capital.

The south Longford students will gain first-hand experience of the professional world, learning about the work carried out by one of Europe's leading investment managers specialising in renewable energy infrastructure.

The internship forms part of a partnership between BVS and Schroders Greencoat Capital, giving students the opportunity to experience an international business environment and engage directly with industry professionals.

BVS is currently the only secondary school in Ireland to be offered this internship opportunity with Schroders Greencoat Capital.

The initiative has been coordinated by BVS enterprise teacher Ann Hall, who has worked closely with the company to develop the partnership and create opportunities for students to gain experience beyond the classroom.

During their upcoming week in London, the students will meet and work alongside employees from different areas of the company, gaining an insight into investment, finance, business and renewable energy, as well as the skills needed to work in an international organisation.

The placement will also give them the opportunity to develop skills in communication, teamwork, problem-solving, presentations and professional networking.

Ms Zara McCabe and Mr Conor Grant will accompany the students on the trip, supporting them throughout their visit.

For BVS, the internship offers students a chance to see how the knowledge and skills they develop in school can translate into future careers. It also reflects the school's commitment to building links with industry and providing students with opportunities to experience the world of work at an early stage in their education.

A partnership such as this also highlights how collaboration between schools and businesses can help young people build the knowledge, confidence and skills needed for their future careers.
