There’s a long weekend ahead, and there’s plenty of spooktacular events going on in Longford to keep everyone occupied over the coming days. Here, we have compiled a list of events that are taking place.
Saturday, October 29
The 13th Annual Gallant 5km/10km Challenge in aid of St Christopher's Hospice Cavan takes place, starting and finishing at McSeain’s Bar, Cornafean.
From 1pm to 4pm, Longford Shopping Centre hosts Spooktacular Saturday, a free family event which includes face painting and magic shows.
From 6.30pm, Colmcille GFC have organised a fun Fancy Dress Party for children at Leebeen Park, Aughnacliffe, and a fancy dress social evening gets underway from approximately 10pm in Murtagh’s pub, Aughnacliffe.
The second annual Junior Halloween Disco is taking place in Drumlish Community Centre from 4-6pm.
The annual fundraising Fancy Dress party in aid of Granard Christmas Lights takes place at the Greville Arms Hotel, Granard, while at Begley’s bar, Killoe, ‘Friends of Max’ will welcome Fair City’s ‘Ciaran the Mechanic’ to a fundraising social night in aid of Max Wenman.
Sunday, October 30
The annual Friends of Newtownforbes Fundraiser in aid of Longford Dyslexia Workshop and Good 2 Talk Longford gets underway with registration from 8.30am at the complex for cyclists. 5km/11.5km walk starting at 11.30am and 12noon. 80km/50km Cycle starting at 9.30am and 10am. Registration from 8.30am at the complex.
There will be a party for children in Streete Parish Park in conjunction with the Parish Park and local football club Inny FC. The event gets underway from 5.30pm until 8.30pm.
Monday, October 31
The Dead of Night festival will get underway at 6pm with a parade from St Mel’s College to the Market Square, where all manner of fun and games will be waiting.
At 5pm at the complex, Newtownforbes, the Fancy Dress Fright Fest fundraiser takes place, with music, face painting and games as well as a prize for best dressed boy/girl.
Cloontagh National School Parents Association will host a fancy dress Hallowe’en disco in St Brigid’s clubhouse, Killashee from 7-9pm, with prizes for the best dressed boy and girl, and of course for the best carved pumpkin.
