Killoe is the place to be for adults and children alike this bank holiday weekend, as the ‘Friends of Max’ group hosts not one, but two fundraising events.
Chairperson of ‘Friends of Max’, Yvonne Prendergast explained the idea behind the group.
“We are a group of local mothers in the Killoe community that are currently fundraising for Max Wenman and his family.
“Max is a six-year-old boy and when he was two years of age, he was diagnosed with stage four Neuroblastoma Cancer.
Max went through a clinical trial and was declared cancer-free in September 2013. Unfortunately Max had a relapse last May and since then he is going through further treatment.”
The group of fifteen have therefore organised two social events to help ‘Mighty Max’ battle on, the first of which will see ‘Ciaran the Mechanic’ from Fair City (otherwise known as Johnny Ward) pay a visit.
Taking place in Begley’s Bar, Killoe this Saturday, October 29, the social night will also welcome Graham Feeney and Sean Rooney, who will provide musical entertainment.
There will also be a fundraising draw. Tickets for the draw, costing just €5, are now available from committee members.
On Sunday, October 30, the kids have their turn to have some fun from 6pm - 8pm with a Fancy Dress Hallowe’en party in Killoe Community Centre, with plenty to see and do. Entry is €5 per child, while accompanying adults attend for free.
In the lead up to the event, St Teresa’s NS will hold a Hallowe’en-themed art competition, while Friends of Max have also organised a Flag Day in Bank of Ireland, Longford on Friday, October 28.
Paying tribute to the local community and to Longford businesses who have generously supported and sponsored the event, committee member Lorraine Ledwith added; “People are so generous and so kind.”
