Women across the county can now avail of free access to MenoWell Longford, an evidence-based online programme that specifically addresses preparation for midlife changes, menopausal transition, and post-menopausal health.

The programme, which also aims to support wellness through all stages of adult life, was created by Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Health Researcher, Dr Diane Cooper through EduFIT, and made available for free by Longford County Council in partnership with Healthy Longford & Longford Sports Partnership.

With research demonstrating significant improvements in cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, menopausal symptoms, wellbeing, and physical self-efficacy, MenoWell's health masterclasses will cover 'Muscle Matters', 'Nutrition for a Healthy Menopause', 'Building Bones', 'Healthy Hearts', 'Sleeping Soundly' and 'S.E.L.F. Care', all of which will be delivered by experts and will include Q&A sessions. Participants will also receive weekly resources such as recipes from registered nutritionists.

So far, over 3,600 women across Ireland have completed the programme and the numbers of attendees are steadily rising given the success of the programme.

Speaking about the introduction of MenoWell to County Longford, Dr Diane Cooper said, "This programme provides credible, practical knowledge that empowers women to make positive changes promoting lifelong health before, during and after menopause. The feedback has been remarkable – women feel genuinely more positive about this natural transition."

Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council, Councillor Garry Murtagh, also encouraged women of all ages to register for the 6 week programme.

He said, "This programme addresses a significant gap in women's health support. The fact that over 3,600 women across Ireland have already benefited speaks volumes. I urge all women in County Longford, regardless of their stage of life, to register for this free six-week programme and invest in their long-term health and wellbeing."

The MenoWell Longford weekly schedule will include two 40-minute live strength exercise classes - which will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8pm - and one 30-minute health masterclass - which will take place Mondays at 1pm.
