Following their major triumph with the fast paced productions of ‘Footloose’ and ‘Legally Blonde’ in the comeback from the Covid pandemic, St Mel’s Musical Society are returning to a traditional show with the decision to stage ‘Me and My Girl’ in April 2025.
Featuring such famous songs as ‘Leaning on a Lamp-post’, ‘The Sun Has Got His Hat On’, ‘The Lambeth Walk’ and the show title tune ‘Me and My Girl’, the Longford group will be working with the vastly experienced Galway-based Director Peter Kennedy for the first time.
Belfast native Kennedy has just completed another term as one of the AIMS adjudicators and he will be joined on the St Mel’s Musical Society production team next season by Longford’s own maestro Fintan Farrelly who is returning in the role of Musical Director after a few years absence.
The new choreographer is Dylan O’Keeffe, a graduate of the Cork School of Music with a degree in musical theatre.
Audition details will be announced in the coming weeks, and new members are welcome, whether you're an experienced performer or a newbie to the stage!

Me and My Girl is a musical with music by Noel Gay and its original book and lyrics by Douglas Furber and L Arthur Rose.
The story, set in the late 1930s, tells of an unapologetically unrefined Cockney gentleman named Bill Snibson, who learns that he is the 14th heir to the Earl of Hareford. The action is set in Hampshire, and in Mayfair and Lambeth in London.

The Best Choreography Award was won by Maynooth University Musical Society for their production of ‘Cats’.
