Corner forward Ronan Courtney, scorer of Longford’s second goal during Saturday’s 2-17 to 0-20 win over Leitrim at Heartland Credit Union Páirc Seán MacDiarmada, was delighted with the result.

Speaking after the game, Ronan reflected, “It was a tough game. Leitrim always gives us a good battle. It's a great start to the league, to get a win on the board and we'll now move on to next week against Cavan.”

Diarmuid Cahill’s charges were put under the cosh by Leitrim during an intensely fought second half and Longford began to put daylight between them following Ronan’s vital 60th minute strike.

Speaking with Longford GAA PRO Colm Murray, Ronan replied, “Look, we're motoring well at the moment. We probably have the strongest squad that we’ve had in the three years that I've been on the panel and everyone's pushing for a place.”

He added, “No one is nailed on to start and no one's nailed on to be a corner forward, a wing forward, whatever it is. So, it's good. There's good competition in the squad.”

Cavan registered a 3-13 to 1-13 win over Warwickshire in round one and they are the visitors to Glennon Brothers Pearse Park for round two this Saturday.

Ronan is looking forward to the game but isn’t getting carried away. “Look, if we keep just building on each game, getting better and better. I don't think we're looking at the end goal of winning the league. I just think if we keep progressing with each game, keep trying to get wins on the board and we'll be in a great place for the Lory Meagher Cup.”
