There is a huge weekend in store for Longford GAA club teams in the AIB provincial club series.

Senior kingpins Killoe Emmet Óg make the trip to Pairc Tailteann, Navan on Sunday to face a fancied Summerhill side at 1.30pm.

While there is an attractive double header in Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday afternoon as Longford intermediate champions Ardagh Moydow face Kilbride of Meath at 12.30pm and this will be followed by the clash of St Brigid’s, Killashee and Barrowhouse of Laois in the provincial junior championship at 2.30pm.

Fifteen times Longford champions Killoe showed all their vast experience when they overcame Colmcille by 2-9 to 1-11 in the county final and they’ll be looking to Mickey Quinn, Danny Mimnagh, Cian Farrelly, captain Ronan Keogh, Mark Hughes and Ryan Moffatt to lead their charge against Summerhill.

Summerhill overcame Ratoath (managed by Kerry’s Paul Galvin) by 0-16 to 0-13 to become Royal County champions for their ninth time and the star man in their county final victory was Meath captain Eoghan Frayne, who helped himself to eight points.

David Clare’s Summerhill started their Meath campaign slowly however beating Trim and then holders Dunshaughlin after extra-time before eclipsing Ratoath and capturing the Keegan Cup. The Fraynes, Eoghan and Conor, contributed 0-12 between them while county defender Ronan Ryan captained the team. Adam Flanagan,  Diarmuid McCabe, Jack Bannon and Ross Ryan are other accomplished performers for Summerhill and on their ‘home patch’ they won’t be easily beaten.

Liam Keenan’s Ardagh Moydow, who won their first Longford intermediate title this year, certainly won’t have anything easy either on Saturday and they’ll be looking for big performances from Dylan Coady, Killian Farrell and Shane Henry if they are to prevail.

Ardagh Moydow are a strong physical side and if they perform their optimum they could well progress.

Ronan Kavanagh, Paddy Mollaghan and Jack Magan are among the key men for St Brigid’s, Killashee as they face Barrowhouse and depending on how the Brigid’s have regrouped since losing the Longford intermediate final, this is a competition they should be looking to do well in.
