Longford horse trainer Paul Flynn landed a double at Punchestown recently where Eoin Staples and Jack Kennedy rode his winners.

The Truant was victorious in the two-mile handicap hurdle to give the Colehill trainer his first success.

Owned by the Thirteen Apostles Racing Syndicate, the Staples-ridden 17/2 chance led at the final hurdle to beat Charles Byrnes’ 5/1 shot Eastmore by a length and a quarter.

The eight-year-old was winning for the fifth time for current connections and for the fourth time in all.

Owned by Paddy McGuire, Pourquoi Poi took the two and a half-mile handicap hurdle in even better style.

Jack Kennedy had the 10/1 chance in front before the final hurdle and the partnership raced away to score by four and three-parts of a length from Oliver McKiernan’s 40/1 shot Head For Home.
