Longford's final home game of the season takes place at Bishopsgate this Saturday night (kick-off 7.30pm) when Cobh Ramblers come to town.

It's hard to believe that we have only two games remaining in the 2024 season and after last Saturday night's draw against Athlone Town we are off the bottom of the table.

In the club's centenary year it would be nice to be remembered for achievements on the field of play but this year is best forgotten and just plan for the 2025 season. Up to this week's meeting we have played three times this season and all have been very close games. The first meeting took place in Cobh on April 1st and that game ended 1-1.

The second meeting took place at the end of May at Bishopsgate and that game ended scoreless.

The third meeting took place on the first weekend in August and on that occasion Cobh won one nil at home with the only goal of the game coming from Jack Larkin in the 69th minute. This season is a changed one for Cobh as they had lost Shane Keegan as manager and Gary Hunt took over and he has settled in very well in his new appointment despite the departure of established players Lee Steacy, Jack Doherty and Charlie Lyons.

Last weekend Cobh beat current table proppers Kerry on a 2-1 scoreline with the goals coming from midfielder Jason Abbott.

New manager Gary Hunt has made Cobh a very tough team to beat and one can expect a real battle on our hands to pick up three vital points and keep us off the bottom of the table.

Recent results at home have been very encouraging and we expect to keep that good run going and finish off our home games with a victory. Unfortunately we lost centre half Jamie Egan through injury against Athlone and hopefully he will be fit for Saturday's game. Oisin Hand came on as a replacement and he settled alongside Eric Yoro in defence.

Substitute Adam Wixted scored the equaliser and in the end Athlone would be beaten only for a few fantastic saves from keeper Minogue.

A big crowd is expected to be at Bishopsgate for the final home game of the season and we urge supporters to come out and show your appreciation to the management and squad as we look forward to 2025.
