U/15 Inter League

Despite being in front twice Longford lost 4-2 to Athlone on Sunday at Abbeycartron in their opening game in the Euro Tabs Inter League cup. Longford keeper Caleb made a couple of early saves as the visitors made all the running. Solid defending by Shane Thompson, Shane Hamilton and Ronan Healy plus one superb safe by Caleb kept Athlone at bay. Longford worked their way into the contest with Pater Lynn, Joe Kelly and Eddie McLoughlin more than matching their opponents. Kelly got his head to a corner to put Longford in front. Kevin Maloney and McLoughlin exchanged passes before the former crossed only for the Athlone keeper to save at the feet of Killian Lee. Athlone equalised but Longford were back in front at the break with Lynn supplying the pass for Lee to score from close range. Kelly weaved his way past the Athlone defence in the opening minute of the second half, but his shot hit the post. Longford were playing some superb football with Lynn and Kelly looking very good. However they came up against a goalkeeper on top off his game. Midway through the half the visitors levelled for the second time.

They went in front with fifteen minutes to go and almost scored again moments later but the Longford keeper pushed the shot round the post. They did get their fourth goal soon after, but Longford finished the stronger and Lee hit a post while Ben Ryan and Kelly both had efforts cleared. Longford Squad. Caleb (Melview) S Hamilton (UCL Harps) K Maloney (Melview) R Healy (Melview) S Thompson (Killoe Celtic) L Gorman (UCL HARPS) P Lynn (Melview) E McLoughlin (Melview) J Kelly (Melview) K Lee (Ballyboro) A Carrigy (Melview) C Dillon (Ballyboro) B Ryan (Melview) B McGee (UCL Harps ) L Casey (Ballyboro)

U/13 Inter League

Longford travelled to Iona Park, Athlone on Saturday for their opening game in the Inter League Cup and thanks to a goal six minutes from time by Conor Keenan they came away with all three points. Both sides were evenly matched on the day but Longford showed greater initiative with players like Oisin McLoughlin, Aaron Kelly and Joseph Hagan really coming to the fore. Keeper Patrick Columb made a few good saves and his long clearances were a great advantage to Longford. Nathan Aughey was another to catch the eye, his link up play was excellent and he created at least one excellent chance for his front men that went a begging. Shane Coughlan got through a lot of work while Cian Gilmore and David Heffernan never put a foot wrong.

The play move quickly from end to end. Kelly was prominent at the heart of the Longford defence, while Hagan was always available to take the ball. It looked like ending all square until Jeremiah Idahor beat his opponent and picked out Keenan with a clever pass, the Gaels United player picked his spot and the ball was nesting in the back of the net. Longford Squad P Coumb (Killoe Celtic) C Gilmore (Ballyboro) R Crowe (Gaels United ) A Kelly (Kenagh United) N Aughey (Castlepollard Celtic) J Hagan (UCL Harps) S Coughlan (Ballymahon) C Keenan( Gaels United) D Heffernan (Killoe Celtic) R McGoey (Melview) O McLoughlin (Abbey Rovers) J Coughlan (Ballymahon) M Nevin (Melview) J Reynolds (Abbey Rovers) C McKiernan (Ballymahon) J Idahor (Camlin United) R Monaghan (Camlin United).

U/10 League

Gaels United brushed aside the challenge of a weak UCL Leopards at Drumlish. Daniel Madden and Ben Teague were quickly into action for United. Madden set up Niall Coppinger for a goal; Anthony Bispo grabbed another as Gaels moved the ball with speed. Oran Greene also got his name on the score sheet.

Ardagh United were rampant against Mostrim. Mellisa Kane and Cathal Farrell set up chances for the razor sharp Conor Hogan, which the striker snapped up. Hogan was superb while Daniel Hayden and Diarmuid Farrell were others to impress.

Stonepark beat UCL Pumas at the Mall. Brian Mulligan and Darren Walsh played well for Pumas. Conor Clancy, Aidan Connell and Eoin McGrath were on target for the winners.

U/12 League

Melview easily accounted for Gaels United at Abbeycartron. Meanwhile CSA beat Newtown 3-1 at Newtown. Sean Christy put the visitors in front. Sean Casey equalised early in the second half. Eoghan Shanley set up Michael Murray to restore the CSA lead and Christy got his second for CSA late on.

Mostrim keeper Filip Nasocki was the MOTM as his side beat Camlin United 1-0 at Abbeycartron. Nasocki was excellent as Camlin chased the game. Cameron Nugent give Mostrim a first half lead. David Reilly and James Kiernan also impressed for the winners.
