Bornacoola native Shane Mallon has been named to start on the Ireland U-20 team to take on Wales in this Friday's Six Nations International against Wales in Cork.
The former Longford Rugby Club player and current UCD RFC player has been named on the wing at number 11 for the game in Musgrave Park (8pm kick-off) and Longford and Leitrim fans will be able to watch the action with the game being televised live on RTE 2.
The news has been greeted with delight with Longford RFC tweeting "Congratulations to Longford Rugby's Shane Mallon who will start on the wing for Ireland U-20 v Wales on Friday night in Musgrave Park, kick-off 8pm. The match will be live on RTE 2. We cannot wait! Best of luck to Shane and all his team mates."
Longford RFC away to Carlow in the first round of the Provincial Towns Cup
The draw for the Bank Of Ireland Provincial Towns Cup took place on Wednesday night and Longford Rugby Club have been drawn away against Carlow in the first round
Ashbourne, Dundalk, Kilkenny and Gorey, the side who currently sit second bottom of Division 1B in the Leinster League, will advance to the last 16 of the competition after receiving byes in the opening round.
The Towns Cup kicks-off on the first week in March.
