Late Edward Harward (Eddie) Hewitt, 9 Paraic Colum Heights, Longford town / Ballymahon, Co Longford
The death occurred, suddenly at the Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar, on Saturday, December 1 of Edward Harward (Eddie) Hewitt, 9 Paraic Colum Heights, Longford town, formerly of Brannigan, Ballymahon, and recently, in the care of the staff of Cluain Lir Care Centre, Mullingar.
Born in 1939 in Brannigan, and the youngest of ten children, Eddie Hewitt was predeceased by his parents Harmen and Kathleen, brothers Thomas, Harmen, Alfred, Nutley, Bevan, Fred, William (Monty) and sister Wilhelminia.
He attended the 'Old Tashinny National School' in the late ‘40’s and then the Technical school in Ballymahon. He loved when family visited him at his home in Paraic Colum Heights in Longford, showing them his collection of clocks, country music videos and of course his Manchester United memorabilia.
He had a great interest in sport, in particular soccer and horse racing. He loved going to GAA matches and greyhound racing in Longford town.
A regular attendee at the Day Centre in Longford, Eddie enjoyed trips with his friends and staff from the centre and the annual Christmas party.
He was a kind and caring gentleman who enjoyed exchanging cards and gifts with his family, sharing lots of stories and jokes. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and his kindness.
Funeral Service was held at St Catherine’s Church, Ballymahon on Thursday, December 6, which was attended by a large crowd. His remains were interred in the adjoining graveyard.
