Up until now the Junior 'A' Football Championship trophy carried no name but that is no longer the case as it will now be known as the Seamus Flynn Memorial Cup in memory of the Longford great Seamus Flynn who died suddenly in February this year.
The late Seamus won eight senior football championship medals with his native Clonguish and was a member of the legendary Longford team who won the premier National League title in 1966 along with a historic Leinster SF Championship success in 1968.
The fantastic Flynn ended up his GAA career with Rathcline, winning a Junior Championship medal in 1982 which he savoured at the age of 45.
Pictured with the Junior Championship Cup at the annual Convention in St Mary's Parish Hall in Lanesboro on Thursday night last was outgoing Longford GAA Chairperson Albert Cooney (who stepped down after completing the maximum five year term in the post) along with sons of Seamus Flynn, Gerard (left) and Andrew, who are both former Rathcline players Photo: Syl Healy
