Longford Arts: Playwright Jimmy Keary has over 30 productions already this year

Well known Rathowen playwright Jimmy Keary continues to have his plays performed on a regular basis. Jimmy has a total of 25 three-act comedies to his name, as well as a number of one-acts.
His most recent play, 'Marrying Mike', which Jimmy wrote last year, was recently staged in Fairfield, Connecticut by the Clan na Gael Players. “A lady from the group read about play on my website,” he explained.

The play, which had its premiere in Portumna, Co Galway last November, has since been staged in Mayo, Carlow and Fermanagh as well as in Fairfield.

It tells the story of an elderly bachelor farmer, Mike Fogarty, who decides that he needs a wife. But his so-called best friend, Barney O'Toole tries to fix Mike up with his flirtatious sister, Colette.
Both are determined that Mike's marriage will be a short one.
“There have been 31 productions of my plays so far this year,” he stated.
There is another production due in Tyrone in mid-June, which will make a total of 32.

“My plays are very popular all over the country, having been staged in 19 counties so far this year. Audiences go home happy and with smiles on their faces,” Jimmy commented.
“I have just completed a new play, my 26th, which is called 'Wedded Blitz'. It is about a marriage in trouble, which is being attacked on all sides by various crises,” he added.
There may be a production of Jimmy’s popular play, 'The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley' in New Haven, Connecticut later in the year.
