In 2023 Longford played host to an astonishing range of musical performers, but few hit the heights of the ethereal brilliance of Kila's performance at Shawbrook's Forest Stage.
The arts and dance hub are looking to emulate the success of that performance when they present an intimate fusion of music and dance between Hothouse Flowers and dance artists Vivian Luk, Nathan Bartman, Ciara Baldwin, Christopher Radford and Sara Macqueen.
Since their formation in Dublin in 1985, when they came to public attention as street performers, Hothouse Flowers have combined traditional Irish music with influences from soul, gospel and rock to create their own unique sound.
Their first album, People (1988), was the most successful debut album in Irish history, reaching No. 1 in Ireland and No. 2 in the UK.
Hothouse Flowers will be in collaboration with the five acclaimed international dancers. The two groups come together for the first time in the unique setting of Shawbrook, Longford for two weeks.
Here they will immerse themselves in the environment of magical creativity, culminating into a unique, rare one off showcase on Saturday, June 15, at 7.30pm at the Shawbrook Forest Stage.
This is a limited event with only 100 tickets available, so early booking is advised.
At the end of last year Shawbrook launched their new Filmstudio in November in the building that has been the Ballet School for 40 years.
The Filmstudio was a host venue for the Still Voices Film Festival.
That industry continued into 2024. The Creative Space Residency programme saw the Linden Dance Company on site in February, Yuki Chung Dance was also in February and Rosie Mullin has been in the Creative Space Residency since April.
