Cathaoirleach Colm Murray
Volunteers to be recognised at the annual local authority Cathaoirleach Awards were outlined at Longford County Council's monthly meeting.
The Cathaoirleach’s Awards honour and celebrate the individuals and groups that work quietly behind the scenes to make our communities stronger, more vibrant and caring, often inspiring and motivating others to become actively involved in their communities.
Since its inception the Cathaoirleach’s Awards have recognised individuals and groups who have enhanced the community.
At the April meeting of Longford County Council members heard the announcement of the local people and groups to be recognised at the Cathaoirleach Awards, held on Wednesday, May 8 in Aras an Chontae, Great Water Street, Longford.
Nominees are: from the Ballymahon MD - Mostrim Players, Granard MD - Granard Tidy Towns and from Longford MD - Newtownforbes Tidy Towns and Biodiversity Group.
Cathaoirleach Colm Murray has also nominated Defibrillator Groups across the county, “They provide a vital public service on a voluntary basis and it is fitting that we recognise them,” the Cathaoirleach said.
Cllr Murray said, “The awards are testament to the value that Longford County Council places on those volunteers and the importance of their work within the community.”
