Last Friday the proceeds of an incredible fundraising drive saw $140,000 handed over to the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust at the annual Longford Association Dinner Dance in New York.
The cheque was a mark of gratitude from the family and friends of Carrickedmond man Kevin 'Skippy' McGuire.
Skippy, who passed away in Brighton, Massachusetts last October, had lived in the US for over 20 years. After two decades in America, the McGuire family wanted Kevin's final resting place to be Longford.
The Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust (KBRT) took on the extraordinarily stressful situation surrounding the death of a Skippy and using their experience made it much easier on the McGuire family.
Mandy Cox, wife of Skippy's cousin Enda Cox (from Darogue, Ballymahon) co-ordinated the presentation to Collie Bell of the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust last Friday (March 8).
Mandy spoke of the reason behind the fundraising group's efforts: “It's important to spread the word about KBRT and the incredible work they do in helping families bring home their loved ones from all over the globe for burial.
“Last Friday the Longford Association Dinner Dance was a packed event. They honoured five of the past presidents as well as Collie Bell and the KBRT.
“We presented our cheque for $140,000 at the end of the Longford Association's plaque presentation to its honourees,” she said.
