Man arrested for alleged harassment of Taoiseach during protests at Wicklow family home

A man has been arrested for alleged harassment of Taoiseach Simon Harris.

The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on Tuesday as part of ongoing investigations into an incident in May.

Gardaí say he was detained for alleged harassment "of an elected representative on 2nd May 2024."

Images on social media at the time showed a number of people with banners outside Simon Harris's house in Greystones.

Placards reading 'South Dublin Says No' and 'Close the Borders' were seen in the images.

Gardaí said they received a report of a gathering of people outside a home in Greystones after 7pm on May 2nd.

They said those present gathered for less than 10 minutes before leaving the area.

Speaking after the protest, Mr Harris said politicians' families and homes should not be subjected to such events.

"I don't want to say too much about this and I don't like describing those sort of things as protests," he said.

"I've a very clear view in relation to this - whether it's me, whether it's an opposition politician or whether it's quite frankly anybody.

"I always think people's families and people's homes should be out of bounds."

The arrested man has since been released without charge, and gardaí say that a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Investigations are ongoing into the incident.
