The Longford Annual 2022 hits the shelves!

It’s that time of the year again when the Longford Annual 2022 hits the shelves across the county.
Inside the sixth edition of the Longford Annual, you will find the pictures that made the news and a selection of the stories that hit the headlines.

From sport and history to art and Christmas stories, the Longford Annual is the perfect end-of-year celebration.
It is available in local shops from today, Wednesday, November 23 and retails at €4.
2022 was a very eventful year. It began positively as we tentatively emerged from the grip of a global pandemic, however, it wasn't long before this optimism was shattered as Russian troops commenced their brutal invasion of Ukraine.

The fall out from the barbaric war in Ukraine has been felt worldwide and as Ireland grapples with a deepening cost of living crisis the country has opened our homes, hotels and communities to 60,000 people from a war-torn Ukraine.

Longford people are renowned for their generosity and hospitality and in the Annual you can read about how communities rallied to organise collections, how people drove across the continent to bring this aid to stricken Ukrainians and how Longford people also warmly welcomed Ukrainian people to the county.

In the Annual we remember those who passed away over the past year, most notably, Longford’s warrior queen and CervicalCheck campaigner, 34-year-old Lynsey Bennett who passed to her eternal reward on October 27.

The 2022 Annual features very interesting ‘Longford Lives’ profiles with Declan Rowley, Jillian McNulty, Dermot Sheehy, Lorna Quinn and Mary Carleton Reynolds.
There is also a comprehensive article, written and researched by Aidan O’Hara looking at the Centenary of An Garda Síochána.

2022 represented a milestone year for the Longford Leader as the newspaper celebrated the 125th Anniversary of its foundation and this is highlighted in the annual.
The year also marked the resumption of major indoor and outdoor events and in recent weeks, county finals have captured the public’s imagination, with Colmcille’s dramatic triumph over neighbours Mullinalaghta St Columba’s in the Peter Hanley Motors Longford senior football championship showdown among the highlights.

Clonguish Gaels captured the senior hurling county title and there were great celebrations when Longford Slashers ladies were crowned Leinster intermediate club queens thanks to a memorable win over Meath side Skryne.
There are also articles on swimmer Darragh Greene, athlete Yemi Talabi, the visit of the Leinster rugby team to Longford, the official opening of Ballyboro FC’s new facilities along with the Ray Flynn Mile and Longford Athletic Club’s impressive new indoor arena.

The Longford Annual 2022 would make the perfect Christmas gift and it is on sale in local shops from today, Wednesday, November 23 and retails at €4.
